TIGER BRANDS TO RECALL IDENTIFIED ENTERPRISE PRODUCTS

Shareholders are informed that Enterprise Foods, a division of
Tiger Brands, has been issued with an order by the National
Consumer Commission to conduct a recall of Enterprise Polony,
Enterprise Frankfurters and Enterprise Smoked Russians.

Tiger Brands prioritises the health and safety of consumers
above all else. To this end, we have, with immediate effect,
undertaken a full national recall of the identified Enterprise
ready-to-eat chilled processed meat product range. We have
contacted all our customers to confirm that the recalled
products are removed from their store shelves and will
continue to work with authorities to ensure an effective and
speedy recall.

Additionally, we have suspended operations at both Enterprise
manufacturing facilities (Polokwane and Germiston) and have
halted supply to trade.

We are currently undertaking enhanced deep cleaning protocols
which include:
   - Oxy-acid dosing units fitted to the rotary coolers to
provide a bacterium kill in the cooling water. This is
over and above the salt which has historically been added
     as a bacterium kill;
   - Increased sanitisation of the packing table through
additional spray sanitisers at the pack station and auto-
dosing units to be installed; and
   - A change to the application of sell-by date codes from
stamping to ink jet printing is in the process of being
implemented given the possibility of pin-holing of casing
in the coding process for any packed products.

After consultation with the National Consumer Commission, a
full communication plan, including print, radio and online
communication, has been rolled out, to help us reach consumers
who have Enterprise products in their home.

Since the confirmed outbreak of Listeriosis by the Department
of Health in December 2017, the company proactively amplified
its testing for Listeria of raw materials and finished goods
and also introduced additional hygiene monitoring of our
processes, equipment, storage and waste areas at our
facilities. Although our testing had detected listeria at low
levels (<10 Colony Forming Units (CFUs)), which is well within
the current industry guidelines (SANS 885), in a batch of one
product on 14 February 2018, the presence of the ST6 strain
had not been confirmed by our tests. The relevant samples
have been sent to an external laboratory for the
identification of the strain, and results are expected back on
5 March 2018.

We have been actively engaging the Department of Health and
the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) on our
findings and have openly collaborated with them on the actions
taken to date to actively address our findings.

Tiger Brands acknowledges that it is dealing with an extremely
serious issue that pertains to people’s personal health and
wellbeing and we want to assure all South Africans that we are
dealing with this matter with the utmost urgency.

Tiger Brands will issue further communication as any new
information becomes available.
