NOTICE OF CHANGES TO THE BOARD DIRECTORATE
In accordance with paragraph 3.59 of the JSE Limited Listings Requirements, shareholders are advised of the
following:
Appointment of Chief Financial Officer
The Board of Directors of Massmart (the “Board”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mohammed
Abdool-Samad as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of the Company with effect from 1 August
2019.
Mohammed succeeds Johannes (Hans) van Lierop who in February 2019 indicated that he was not available to
extend his tenure with Massmart for personal reasons. Hans will therefore step down as Chief Financial Officer
and Executive Director at the end of July 2019 but will remain in Massmart until later in the year in an advisory
capacity to support Mohammed through a handover period.
Mohammed joins Massmart from Illovo Sugar Limited (“Illovo”) where he was Group Finance Director. Prior to
joining Illovo in 2011, Mohammed spent a decade in various executive finance roles within Anglo American plc.
Mohammed is a qualified chartered accountant of South Africa (CA (SA)) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce
degree from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal.
The Board, Massmart Executive Committee and Management welcome Mohammed to Massmart and wish him
all of the very best.
