Voluntary Announcement: IFRS 16 update

Stakeholders are herewith informed that today Massmart is making a qualitative and quantitative
disclosure in accordance with International Accounting Standard (“IAS”) 8.30 and IFRS 16, specifically
around the method and impact of adoption of IFRS 16 ‘ Accounting for Leases’, and such publication in
the form of a presentation and video is available on the Company’s website https://www.massmart.co.za/.
The presentation includes for illustrative purposes the pro forma impact of IFRS 16 on the 30 December
2018 audited income statement.

IFRS 16 is effective for financial years commencing on or after
1 January 2019. Massmart is adopting IFRS 16 using the modified retrospective approach.
