PUBLICATION OF THE AMENDED FIRSTRAND SUSTAINABLE FINANCE FRAMEWORK AND THE AMENDED
SECOND-PARTY OPINION
FRB advises noteholders that the FirstRand sustainable finance framework and the second-party opinion issued thereon have
been amended to ensure alignment with the International Finance Corporation's definition of MSMEs within the "financial
inclusion" investment category. The MSME definition has been amended as follows:
"Projects that increase the access of micro, small or medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to financial services, including but
not limited to affordable credit on preferential rates MSMEs, which meet two of the three following criteria (employees, assets,
sales), are defined as:
– enterprises that have fewer than ten employees or assets or annual sales of less than $100 000 each will be considered
micro enterprises; or
– enterprises that have ten or more but fewer than 50 employees or assets or annual sales of $100 000 or more, but less
than $3 million each, will be considered small enterprises; or
– enterprises that have 50 or more but fewer than 300 employees or assets or annual sales of $3 million or more, but less
than $15 million each, will be considered medium-sized enterprises; or alternatively
– if the loan to the MSME falls within the relevant IFC MSME loan size proxy**."
