On a quarterly basis, the Standard Bank Group discloses to ICBC sufficient information to enable ICBC

Since reporting in August 2026, the global macroeconomic environment has become more
challenging, reflecting heightened geopolitical risks, rising energy prices and persistent inflationary
pressures. In South Africa, inflation has increased, monetary policy has tightened, and the near-term
growth outlook has been revised downwards. By contrast, growth across Africa has remained
relatively resilient, supported by continued reforms and stronger export receipts from commodity-
producing economies.
Against a complex and dynamic macroeconomic backdrop, the group continued to perform well and in
line with guidance provided in August 2026. In 9M26, earnings attributable to ordinary shareholders
were 8.5% higher than in the nine months ended 30 September 2025 (9M25 or period on period). In
9M26, headline earnings growth was in line with the growth in earnings attributable.
In 9M26, the banking business continued to demonstrate resilience, supported by its diversified
franchise across clients, regions and product offerings. Banking revenue growth and cost growth were
dampened by currency impacts, particularly as the South African Rand was stronger on average
period on period.
Growth in headline earnings from the insurance and asset management business in 9M26 slowed
slightly relative to the 15% growth reported in the six months to 30 June 2026 (1H26). This was driven
by a high base in the three months from July 2025 to September 2025 (3Q25), linked to strong market
performance and low claims in 3Q25, rather than a slowdown in the momentum in the underlying
business in the three months from July 2026 to September 2026.
As anticipated, growth in earnings attributable from the group’s 40% stake in ICBC Standard Bank plc
(ICBCS) in 9M26 slowed in constant currency relative to the very strong growth reported in 1H26.
Growth in earnings attributable from ICBCS is expected to continue to face headwinds from a
particularly strong performance in 2H25 as well as currency movements year on year.
The group remains well capitalised and liquid. This positions the group well to continue to support our
clients as they manage the uncertainty and seek opportunities to grow.
The information contained in this announcement and that on which the operational performance
update is based has not been reviewed and reported on by the group's external auditors.
